Other items that may pose a threat to the security of the event as determined by and at the discretion of the security screeners**

* sure as hell wouldn't want to actually allow the tranquil stage managing of patriotic unity and racial acceptance to be marred by an 8" x 11" sign stating "President Osama Saddam" or "I Love Obama".

** this would include babies packed into baby-carrier-units such as Baby Bjorn. God alone knows what you could pack into those things besides wet diapers.

Umbrellas? Clearly they're not expecting rain....

I find it truly sad that we now live in a world where such security must be necessary. But then, al-Qaeda has been too quiet lately....so maybe the paranoia is justified.

Have you seen "Battlestar Galactica"? I'm thinking of renting it because like all good sci fi, it's supposed to mirror our present world and Mary McDonnell is the president.

Considering that all of the lunatics running around in Mumbai last month were from Pakistan, and significant numbers of Al-Quaeda purportedly headed there after being displaced from Afghanistan and Iraq ... perhaps they've just shifted targets. Although I'm not sure if most Americans are sensitive enough to the fact that we aren't the only target of anti-democracy terrorism.

Battlestar Galactica: Yes. Yes it is. see Jan 12 entry.
